JUNE 1 - Tolland High School

COMMITMENT

Carefully read through all information and dates below

To participate in the Showcase dancers will commit to attending class regularly and on time. Students that arrive late more than twice and/or exceed 3 absences will not be able to participate. (This policy is strictly enforced)

Little Dancers - not all young students are ready to perform in a recital, they must be able to consistently participate in class + follow along with the Instructor. Contact us before registering if unsure. Note - Toriography reserves the right to decline participation if they are not ready, anytime in the semester.

We treat this is a professional concert experience for our dancers, it is not a typical "recital". Everyone is expected to be prepared, on time, and performance-ready. During the Show our guests will remain seated to support all dancers, entry/exiting is only permitted between routines, and there is no screaming/shouting for dancers. As a community we will all do our part to make the Toriography Showcase an organized + enjoyable experience for all!

PERFORM

Show

June 1st @ Tolland High School - 10:00am + 2:00pm

Assignments

Each class will be assigned to a Show time (older dancers typically do both). Note before committing - we make every attempt to keep siblings in the same show, however it isn't always possible.

Rehearsal

Stage Rehearsal is held at the high school May 31. Participating dancers must be present for this day, scheduled in 10-15min slots to practice on stage.

Performance

By participating you are making a commitment to attend/watch the entire length of the Show (approx. 2 hours) For everyone's safety dancers will not be picked up early, regardless of the reason. Attempting to do so will prevent your family from participating in future events with Toriography.

Backstage

Tickets

Tickets for the Show go on sale May 4 @ 10:00am and are $25.00/ea. It is assigned seating, we recommend organizing with family/friends ahead of time and have 1 person log in on this day to purchase. They sell quickly/do not wait and rest assured that all seats at the high school have a great view of the stage.

  • Every person attending, regardless of age, must purchase a seat per fire code (sitting in laps is not permitted)

  • We strongly recommend not bringing babies or very small children, the theater is very dark with complete blackouts every 3-4 mins (crying/screaming affects the dancers on stage and the experience of those around you)

  • Please contact the ticketing company directly with questions, Toriography does not facilitate purchases

  • Dancers do not need a ticket (they remain backstage)

  • There are no refunds on tickets

⚠️ Important! Be sure to purchase tix for the performance time your dancer is in. (Assignments will be listed here)

COSTUMES

Organize

Please hang in a clean, dry place and do not wear for play or outside. Wrinkled costumes can be steamed but never ironed or placed in the wash. Some alterations may be needed to find a great fit for your dancer. Put your dancer's name inside everything - costume pieces, dance shoes, & accessories.

Accessories

A list of what style tights need to be purchased, hair requirements, shoes per costume will be accessible here when ready. (Note - there are separate tabs by day)

Shop

To purchase tights online we recommend www.dancewearsolutions.com or Amazon. You can also shop locally ("Dance Village" is in Manchester) Dance tights are not the same as regular tights/nylons, be sure to purchase as "dance tights" (Capezio, Bloch, Balera, Body Wrappers, etc)

Shoes

Make sure you have the correct style/color shoes and that they are clean + don't have holes (aka "picture and stage ready")

GENERAL GUIDELINES :

  • Underwear is not worn under dance costumes, tights serve this purpose.

  • 2 pairs of tights should be purchased to have a backup pair in case they rip.

  • Developing dancers need to utilize a dance bra in beige/tan under costumes. Straps should be clear or pinned to be completely hidden. (No colored bras!)

  • Remove all jewelry, nail polish (toes if showing), friendship bracelets, apple watches, and temporary tattoos.

  • All dancers are expected to arrive on Showcase Day clean & showered, with older dancers utilizing clear deodorant

SHOW DAY

Arrival

On Showcase Day, 1 female parent will drop their dancer off in the Dressing Room area @ 9:30am for 1st Show and 1:30PM for the 2nd. Hair & makeup should already be complete with younger dancers in costume/1st costume. (We recommend wearing a button/zip up shirt over for backstage)

   Dressing Room Areas**

   Ages 4-9 : Gym

   Ages 10-12 : Choir Room

   Ages 13+ : Band Room

**Note- your dancer may be separated from siblings or friends. This is non-negotiable, they will go to the room assigned above (age day of show).

Pickup

At the completion of the Show, send 1 female parent to the dressing room to pick up your dancer. Note - dancers will not be picked up during the show regardless of the reason. If you attempt to leave or cause a scene, security will be notified + registration at Toriography will no longer be permitted.

Parking

We strongly advise planning ahead for parking. We sell close to 800 tickets per Show and that many people will arrive at the same time. Tolland has space both in front of and behind the school, consider dropping young dancers and/or elderly guests at the door then parking.

Packing

Here are some extra things to pack with your dancer on Show Day:

  • Favorite doll/stuffed animal (great for little ones!)

  • Coloring books (crayons only), games, cards, etc.

  • Small snacks - water, pretzels, granola bar (dry items) *No colored drinks, pudding, applesauce, etc.

BEAUTY

Makeup

All dancers need makeup to brighten + define their faces on stage (lights will wash them out). Here is what we recommend:

Ages 4-6* / Blush, eyeshadow (browns/taupes, no colors), lipstick (berry shades, not bright red or pink)

Ages 7-9 / Same above plus foundation, powder, mascara

Ages 10+ / Same as above plus eyeliner

*Toriography strongly believes in kids looking like kids. Makeup is not required for the 4-6 age group, do what you feel comfortable with, however a little blush + lipstick can make them feel extra special on this day!

Hair

All styles should be tight, clean and hold up all day utilizing copious amounts of strong gel & hairspray (bangs must be back).

NOTE - Do not add sparkly makeup, hair glitter, or additional accessories to any dancer! Please follow the above information only.
