GETTING ORGANIZED

COSTUMES

They will begin arriving over the next 2 weeks and sent home. Please hang in a clean, dry place and do not wear for play or outside. Wrinkled costumes can be steamed but never ironed or placed in the wash. Some alterations may be needed to find a great fit for your dancer. Put your dancer's name inside costume pieces, dance shoes, & accessories.

OUTLINE

A list of what style tights need to be purchased, hair requirements, shoes per costume is accessible here. (Note - there are separate tabs by day) It will be updated as they arrive, check back often! Does not include Company Routines

SHOP

To purchase tights online we recommend www.dancewearsolutions.com, locally there is a store in Manchester called "Dance Village"

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Underwear is not worn under dance costumes, tights serve this purpose.

  • 2 pairs of tights should be purchased to have a backup pair in case they rip.

  • Developing dancers need to utilize a dance bra in beige/tan under costumes. Straps should be clear or pinned to be completely hidden. (No colored bras!)

  • Remove jewelry, nail polish, friendship bracelets, and apple watches.

  • All dancers are expected to arrive on Showcase Day clean & showered, with older dancers utilizing clear deodorant

SHOWCASE DAY

ARRIVAL

On Showcase Day, 1 female parent will drop their dancer off in the Dressing Room area @ 9:30am for 1st Show and 1:30PM for the 2nd. Hair & makeup should already be complete and costume (or 1st costume) already on. Dancers will be left here for the length of the Show and picked up when it's complete, parents that are not volunteering will not be permitted to stay.

   Dressing Room Areas:

   Ages 4-11 : Small Gym

   Ages 12-14 : Choir Room

   Ages 15+ : Band Room

PICK-UP

At the completion of the Show, send 1 female parent to the dressing room to pick up your dancer. Note - early retrieval is not permitted for the safety of all dancers.

PACKING

Here are some great things to pack with your dancer on Show Day:

  • Favorite doll/stuffed animal (great for little ones!)

  • Small blanket or sweater if tend to get cold

  • Coloring books, games, cards, etc.

  • Small snacks - water, pretzels, granola bar (dry items) *No colored drinks, pudding, applesauce, etc.

BEAUTY

MAKEUP

All dancers need a little makeup to brighten their faces on stage (lights will wash them out). Here is what we recommend:

Ages 4-6* / Blush, eyeshadow (browns/taupes, no colors), lipstick (berry shades, not bright red or pink)

Ages 7-9 / Same above plus foundation, powder, mascara

Ages 10+ / Same as above plus eyeliner

*Toriography strongly believes in kids looking like kids. Makeup is not required for the 4-6 age group, do what you feel comfortable with, however a little makeup can make them feel extra special on this day!

HAIR

The style required for your class is listed here. If you have a "high bun" it should be tight, clean and hold up all day utilizing copious amounts of strong gel & hairspray (bangs must be back). Here is a video tutorial to help you in creating your bun!

✽ Shopping List: Hair ties in your color, strong gel, hairspray, hair pins, bobby pins or barrettes, hair net in your hair color, donut (recommended)

NOTE - Do not add sparkly makeup, hair glitter, or additional accessories to any dancer! Please follow the above information only.

MASKS

Masks will not be required at the Showcase, however you are always welcome to wear one. Please utilize a "flesh" color one on stage, not one that matches the costume.

  > It is assigned seating, if you'd like to sit with family we encourage you to have 1 person from your group log-in to purchase. View the seating chart here

  > Due to fire code all attending patrons must purchase a ticket and sit in a seat regardless of age. We strongly recommend not bringing small children or babies, the

theater is very dark & loud with complete blackouts every 3 minutes. Screaming/crying affects the dancers on stage as well as surrounding dance families.

Pictures

• PHOTOSHOOT WEEK

This annual event will be held May 1-7 at Toriography. Dancers will arrive to class in their costumes and have a picture taken as a group for our annual Yearbook,

as well as individual poses. A gallery will be sent home for you to select your favorites (optional) and Yearbook available for purchase.

Other

• More information regarding the event will be added here as we get closer. Check back for updates!

• Showcase is not required. Dancers are still welcome to learn the routine and participate in class. Please note however - the Showcase will be discussed often and

dancers prepared in many ways for the big day. Receiving/trying on costumes can be especially sensitive if they are not a part of it. We strongly recommend having

this conversation with your dancer so they are not surprised or feel left out of the process.

• To make the day run seamlessly we rely on the help of our Toriography families to volunteer. Jobs include Class Moms, Prop Parents, Runners, etc. A sign-up

form will be sent as we get closer, consider sharing your time to make the event successful!

• All dancers will be assigned to a "Dressing Room" area during the performances. They will remain backstage through the length of Show (approx. 2-2.5hrs). This

includes younger dancers, please note before committing that they have to stay for the entire performance and parents are not permitted backstage unless

  volunteering (see above).
